【Cherry Blossom Season (Limited Edition)】A white tunnel of cherry blossoms

  • Cherry Blossom Viewing

Yawata is a place where three main rivers of Kyoto gather together. On the separation levee between the Yodo River and the Kizu River here, 250 cherry blossom trees are planted and make up a 1.4 km long belt. The trees look like a pinkish cloud hovering over the rivers in blooming seasons.

From the Yawata-shi station of the Keihan railway, it takes about 10 minutes on foot to the place. You won’t be lost in the cherry blossom season because so many people are walking in the same direction. By following them, you will come to the entrance of the tunnel of bloomed cherry blossom trees. It’s free to enter the tunnel. Inside, you will find that sunlight penetrates the cherry blossom flowers and make them shine white. After admiring the beauty of the upper side of the cherry blossom trees, you can appreciate the scenery of the flowered branches stretching out to the river.

There are some open air stalls along the path, so you can buy some food there and eat it along the way.

It’s a rather long way and filled with people, but it must be nice to walk along the way to the other end of the tunnel. On the way back, you can go along the way of the lower side of the bank and appreciate the beauty of the blossoms from outside.

When you come back to the Keihan station, you can take a cable car to Iwashimizu Hachimangu, which is a famous National Treasure shrine on the top of a mountain called Otokoyama, depending on the time you have.
