Reasonable Authentic Kyo-Kaiseki

If you are looking for a Kaiseki Restaurant in Kyoto but little overwhelmed with the high price, this is a perfect place for you. Kyo-Kaiseki (Kyoto Kaiseki) Minokichi is one of the oldest Kaiseki Restaurants established in 1791, but still reasonable and delicious.

Here is what’s included in one of their Kaiseki course.
Hana Kaiseki, 5400JPY:
1. Aperitif, Japanese Plum Wine
2. House Made Sesame Tofu
3. Ebi-Imo (Kyoto taro) and Fu (gluten cake) in Kyoto White Miso
4. Today’s assorted Otsukuri (sashimi)
5. Main Dish: your choice of Broiled Beef Filet, or Grilled Sawara fish with miso sauce
6. Shimmered Daikon with Vegetable Tofu Ball, Kikuna and Yuzu
7. Crab, Shrimp and Mushroom Tempura
8. Crab Rice, cooked fresh at the table, Akadashi and pickles
9. Six Kinds Assorted Desert Plate
10. Match

All the dishes are carefully prepared with attentions to the detail. The taste is rather subtle Kyoto style but they use variety of seasonings and vegetables for rich variety of flavors. The preparation and presentation is beautiful, so you will enjoy their food with both your tongue and eyes.

Besides their reasonable price and tasty dishes, what makes them special is that they serve Matcha at the end of the course. Most Japanese restaurants serve high quality Japanese green tea as an after meal tea, but not Match because Matcha is more premium. I love Matcha, but I usually don’t have that choice, so after-meal Matcha at Minokichi made me feel significantly satisfied.

Also, all the servers at Minokichi are in Kimono. That also makes the dining experience special. I felt like I had dinner at one of those prestigious restaurants.

Minokichi Karasuma is very accessible because it’s located just few minutes’ walk from Shijo Karasuma station where both Hankyu Railway and Subway stops. The restaurant is pretty big, so they can accommodate a big group of people too. I hope you try there and experience their tasty Kyo-Kaiseki as well as their traditional Japanese ambience.

This is a restaurant chain that has 4 restaurants in Kyoto and 15 restaurants in Japan.
