We are so lucky that we can eat conger eel dishes at such reasonable prices for lunch.

We Japanese like basted eel with thick, sweet soy sauce poured over it during summer in particular, for people believe that eating eel makes us energetic.
While eel lives in the river, conger eel in the sea.
And the taste of conger eel is less fatty than that of eel.
Some people prefer simple tasting conger eel.

The restaurant name Oogane, the owner’s family name, literally means BIG MONEY in Japanese.
Please ask him to have gotten a lot of money when you eat at the restaurant.

Oogane is located on Takatsuji-Nishinotoin, within five minutes’ walk, about 540 meters away from both Karasuma Station, Hankyu Railway, and Shijo Station, Kyoto City Metro.

They have twelve seats, two tables for four, and aren’t available in large groups.
Since only two staff, a friendly married couple, work at the restaurant, we can sense a cozy atmosphere.

The menus for lunch are:
Anasushi-don, some pieces of grilled conger eel on a bowl of rice cooked with vinegar and sugar, comes with Miso soup, hot soup made from fermented soy-bean paste, and salty pickles. It costs 980 JPY.
Tamagotoji-don, scrambled eggs cooked together with conger eel on a bowl of rice, costs 880 JPY.
Dinner menus, provided booking is made, are some expensive:

Each of the three prix-fixes will be served according to the difference of prices.
They have 6,000, 8,000, 10,000 JPY ones.
In addition, there is a hotpot-style dish with conger eel in it during winter. It costs 5,000 JPY.
This hotpot is essential for cold winter in Kyoto.

We sometimes wait for about 20 minutes for lunch because this restaurant is not so spacious.
They don’t have any menus in English but the chef absolutely welcomes foreign tourists with his smiles.
