Mild but hot curry and rice of long-established curry restaurant in Osaka

From the day of establishment in Osaka in 1947, this restaurant has long been keeping the same taste and attracts repeat customers. The restaurant’s name is “Indian Curry.”

The dish which it serves is Japanese-style “curry and rice” instead of the Indian dish “curry and naan.” When you take the first mouthful, you will surely feel it rather mild and fruity. But soon you will find that it is hot. It’s so spicy that you may feel your tongue is burning.

This mild but spicy (or should that be ‘spicy but mild’?) curry and rice is the “Indian Curry”, which has many fans not only from Osaka but also from many different places. Many people say that it has an addictive taste.

Pickled cabbage is served as a side dish. It tastes a little bit sweet and goes well with the hot curry. You may want to drink a lot of water, but don’t worry. Your water glass will be refilled just as your water goes down; without having to ask the staff (of course, the water is free of charge, as at most restaurants in Japan).

If you don’t like spicy food, or you are accompanied by kids, you can choose Hayashi Rice. There are only two dishes on the menu, “Indian Curry (curry and rice)” and “Hayashi Rice (hashed beef rice)”. Indian Curry is ¥750 and Hayashi Rice is ¥620.

The shop has only 21 seats at the bar and no tables. There often is a long line of waiting customers, especially at midday. However, you will not have to wait long because most customers don’t linger.

When you get to the front of the line, which is the entrance as well as the cash register of the shop, you are supposed to order the dish and make the payment at the same time. Once you have finished the payment, things will go smoothly. The small plastic plate given to you at the register indicates what you ordered. The chef will serve you the dish and side dish soon after.

The shop has seven branches in Osaka, and the Hankyu-Sambangai-Shop is the most well known. “Hankyu-Sambangai” means a big shopping mall which is mostly located in the Osaka underground. How about trying the Japanese-style curry and rice when you explore the underground city of Osaka?

This is a restaurant chain that has 7 restaurants in Osaka and 9 restaurants in Japan.
