The Izunokuni panorama park is a tourist facility in Izunokuni city, Shizuoka prefecture. This park opened in 1992. It is located on the north foot of Mt. Katsuragi at an altitude of 452m (1,550ft) above sea level. This park welcomes you with seasonal flowers such as mountain cherries, azaleas and hydrangeas.

The most representative facility is a rope way which links the summit of Mt. Katsuragi to the Izu Nagaoka onsen district. Its line length is 1.8km (1.1mi), and the vertical interval, 411m (1348ft). Each of the rope way's 40 cabins carries 6 passengers at the speed of 4 meters per second. Glass windows make it possible to enjoy a panoramic view from every direction. Approaching the mountain top, a breathtaking view and thrilling moment awaits! You will see the grandeur of Mt. Fuji in front of you every moment, since the maximum gradient of the last part of the slope is 36 degrees. Please enjoy the aerial trip for 7 minutes, overlooking Mt. Fuji in the foreground of the Suruga bay.

When you reach the summit of Mt. Katsuragi, you will not only see a panoramic view but also beautiful facilities:
・Katsuragi shrine, originally set up for ascetic Buddhist practices
・Bell Tower, rung by couples, wishing their eternal love
・100 Jizo statuettes, stone images of the guardian deity of children
・Field Athletic and Fuji View Deck

When you get hungry, how about buffet style meal in the restaurant, Panorama Dining?
I also recommend trying Japanese dumplings and wasabi ice cream with your legs in the foot bath, overlooking spectacular view of Mt. Fuji. Please check the park's website ( to know more.

If you have more time, why don’t you try visit the Nirayama reverberatory furnace in the same city, which was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site in July, 2015?
