An intellectual playground for adults

  • Other

Getting tired of spending nights in the hustle and bustle atmosphere in Shinjuku, Shibuya or Akihabara in Tokyo? Now you might need a more peaceful and intellectual night, surrounded by …. books!

Daikanyama Tsutaya Books is basically a bookstore, which opens until 2 am. It consists of three two-storied buildings which offer a huge selection of books and magazines from Japan and abroad. The reason I said “basically a bookstore” is that it also provides stationery, made-in-Japan souvenirs, and audio materials including DVD's and music CD's. Travelers from overseas can pay at the tax-free counter.

As Tsutaya is originally known as a rental video shop, it offers you rental DVD's and CD's as well. You might not have a chance to rent DVDs unless you live here or stay long-term in Tokyo, but you can also borrow high quality headphones and try any CD's while you are at the store.

While browsing your favorite books or music, you will notice your sense of smell becomes simulated with a good aroma. This bookstore houses a Starbucks coffee shop, and you can enjoy any books from the first floor while drinking coffee.

If you would like a bit more sophisticated and stay-put atmosphere, the lounge called Anjin on the second floor of Building 2 will be the perfect place. Surrounded by back issues of Japanese and imported magazines, you’ll feel like you are at a stylish library.

Try to make a relaxing night of it here to save your energy for tomorrow!
Opening hours: Bookstore 1F, Starbucks: Everyday 7:00-2:00 am
Bookstore 2F, Anjin(the lounge) 9:00-2:00 am
