Town of Electronics, Cool Japan and Maid Café

  • Shopping

Akihabara is known as the Electric Town. It grew from the radio parts shop street after WWⅡ. Today, you can find thousands of electronic stores for various categories such as PC, home electric appliances, smartphones, cameras, watches, electric parts, toys, etc. Yodobashi-Akiba is the biggest electric store in the area and they have a large variety of items.

But that's not all. Now, this town is also called Cool Japan. You can find many great shops of game software, comics, anime character goods, figures, dolls, train models and so on.

In 2001 the first Maid Café opened in Akihabara and now, you will find more than 50 Maid Cafes in this area. At the typical maid café, a waitress dressed in a European maid costume welcomes you saying “Okaerinasaimase, goshujinsama” (Welcome home, Master) so that the guests feel they come back to their own home even though it is their first time to visit. And when you order a drink, the maid make a special magic to make the drink more tasty and you have to follow her words and actions ^^. If you go there for the first time, I recommend Maidreamin. This is typical maid cafe and they explain the charge clearly when you enter the café. You need at least ¥1,100 (JPY) including one soft drink.

The famous young girls group called AKB48 started from Akihabara and there is their own theater too and they have performance almost every day.
