This cozy Japanese garden is a hot place to visit

  • Nature Walks
  • Special Recommendations

Kiyosumi garden is a circuit style garden, which was originally the property of a feudal lord in the Edo period, but later one of the greatest financers of Industrial conglomerates. Mr. Iwasaki bought it and organized it as the garden. Later he donated it to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, and it is currently a property of the Tokyo government.

One of the features of the garden is rare stones which are placed throughout the garden. Technically there are 55 stones and all of them were bought and transported by Mr. Iwasaki on his ship during his business trips. Some of the stones are so valuable because their mining is now banned.

The seasonal flowers and trees, and birds are also an attraction of the site. Depending on the season, you might see a beautiful white heron by the pond.

When you have finished looking at the garden, hanging around the cozy small town is also nice. In the vicinity of the garden, there are several coffee shops including Blue Bottle from America and Allpress from New Zealand in addition to the domestic ones. Now the east side of the old town has become a battleground of coffee shops.

Also there are a few sumo stables in this area, you'll come across some of them if you're lucky.
