Casual Kaiten Sushi -fast, cheap, and tasty-
Have you tried Kaiten Sushi -rotating Sushi- in Japan yet?
I remember that one of my American friends was so surprised when he saw the Kaiten Sushi for the first time.
He had no idea why many Sushi plates are rotating in front of people.
There are some theories when and why Kaiten Sushi has started in Japan.
But mainly, it was because someone wanted to have customers have Sushi meal quickly.
And now, there is a number of Kaiten Sushi places in Japan.
I love Sushi itself and Kaiten Sushi place is very good place to have Sushi because Sushi could be very expensive when it's not rotating.
So, I tried many Kaiten Sushi places in Tokyo, but there are good ones and not good ones.
And here is one of my favorite Sushi places I often visit.
It's MORI-ICHI in Kinshicho.
It's located inside of the Kinshicho station building on the first floor.
In the Kaiten Sushi place manner, you go into the place and you will get seated after telling the number of people.
Then, what you do is to make yourself a cup of hot tea.
There always are cups and some kind of tea leaf on the table in front of you.
At MORI-ICHI there is a bottle of powder tea.
You put some powder tea in a cup and pour some hot water from the server in front of you.
You will see this hot water server at most of the Kaiten Sushi place in Japan.
This is probably used only at Kaiten Sushi places.
After getting a cup of tea, you are ready to have some Sushi.
As you know, there are some plates of Sushi rotating in front of you.
But depending on the time or how busy the shop is, there might not be lots of Sushi rotating.
And even if there are a bunch of plates already rotating, you can still order your fresh Sushi to the Sushi chef in front of you.
Or you can still get what you want from the rotating table as well.
And this day, I firstly had “Engawa"- Japanese flounder.
Next is grilled eel.
I have to have tuna every time.
The last plate is sea urchin.
I had 5 plates this time, but when I'm really hungry I usually have 10.
At Kaiten Sushi shops, the price usually depends on the color of the plate.
At MORI-ICHI, blue plates are all 150yen and the white ones are all 120yen.
Like most of the Sushi places, each seat is pretty small, so you need to minimize your coat or luggage to go in there.
And there are no tables at this Sushi place, so you will all be seated horizontally.
MORI-ICHI gets pretty crowded around lunch and dinner time especially in weekends.
So, I went there this time at about 11:00am and it was not too busy or too slow.
There are so many Sushi shops in Japan and in Tokyo, but again there are some good ones and not good ones.
And MORI-ICHI is the place I recommend at Kinshicho area.
