The large scaled farmer’s market opened in 2011 near Yomitan Village Office, and it is very popular place for locals and Americans living in the area for the varieties of fresh produces brought by farmers in the central of Okinawa for good prices.
Yomitan is famous for purple potato, but this store carries all kinds of seasonal vegetables and fruits, including bitter melon, carrots, papaya, herbs, mango, pineapple, banana, orange, passion fruits, and dragon fruits. Even during winter time, you will find so many produces here.
They carry more than veggies and fruits. You should check out a section of items brought by local bakeries and restaurants, such as bread, cakes, biscuits, Sobe popo (Okinawan pancake originally from Sobe Ward, Yomitan), sugar donuts, and more.
You can find reasonable lunch as well. This place has its own processing plant, so they sell some cooked foods in lunch boxes, realizing local production for local consumption. At the parlor located right outside of the store, famous “Beni-buta burger” (Beni-buta means read pork, and it’s a name of Okinawan brand pork.) is available. Its bans have seaweed mixed. If you see a picture of a purple pig somewhere in the village, that’s the Yomtian Village’s image character, Yomi-ton.
Raw purple potato cannot be brought outside of Okinawa, but steamed ones or processed ones into powder, jam, or past have no issue. You can buy freshly baked potato in winter time at the store. On a nice day, you can just grab some foods from here and enjoy picnic at Zakimi Castle also.
