Industrial heritage in modern times of Japan

This is one of places which we must see, when we visit Aichi prefecture.
It is easy to access, just one stop from Nagoya Station. We can use Me-Gru (Nagoya Sightseeing Route Bus), a city bus, a Meitetsu train or a subway.

This museum was established at the site of the Headquarters Plant of the former Toyoda Spinning & Weaving Co., Ltd. in 1994. It is a cool red-brick building and originally built in the early 20th century.
Some people might recall Tomioka Silk Mill which was founded in 1872 and registered as a UNESCO World Heritage in 2014.
Although Toyota Group is famous for its automobile industry, textile industry was the first stage of Toyota Group. So, we can make sure the importance of textile industry in the early stage of Japanese industrialization.

At the entrance hall, there is a big piece of original machinery. It is a circular loom invented in 1906 by Toyoda Sakichi, the founder of the Toyota Group. It symbolizes the "Spirit of being studious and creative". And this museum also communicates the importance of "making things".

There are mainly two sections in this museum. One is Textile Machinery Pavilion. The other is Automobile Pavilion.
In Textile Machinery Pavilion, there are many exhibits of original equipment. And, some operators stand in important sections. They demonstrate the machinery actually and explain them.
We can learn the basics of spinning and weaving and their history through actual examples.

In Automobile Pavilion, there are many dynamic displays of original equipment. And, in each section, we can listen to their explanation and watch demonstrations. Those displays are very attractive. We can learn about the evolution of development and production technology.

In this museum, some useful and interesting events and workshops also take place every month. And, they have a library and rooms to learn various aspects of making things.

An English tour for 90 minutes takes place on every Sundays afternoon.
Otherwise, an operator said, "we try to be able to explain in English as necessary."

In Aichi prefecture, which Toyota based on, there is Toyota Automobile Museum in Nagakute City. It is also very popular for foreign tourists. And, we can visit a Toyota automobile factory.
