This is one of the must-see places of Aichi prefecture.
It is easy to access, just one stop from Nagoya station.

This museum was established at the site of the Headquarters Plant of the former Toyoda Spinning & Weaving Co., Ltd. in 1994. It is a red-brick building that was originally built in the early 20th century.
Some people might recall Tomioka Silk Mill which was founded in 1872 and registered as a UNESCO World Heritage in 2014.
Although Toyota Group is famous for its automobile industry it was first in the textile industry. So, you can learn about the importance of the textile industry in the early stage of the Japanese industrialization.

In the entrance hall, there is a big piece of original machinery. It is a circular loom invented in 1906 by Sakichi TOYODA, the founder of the Toyota Group. It symbolizes the "spirit of being studious and creative". And this museum also communicates the importance of "making things".

There are mainly two sections in this museum. One is the textile machinery pavilion and the other is the automobile pavilion.
In the textile machinery pavilion, there are many exhibits of original equipment. And, some operators stand in the most important sections to demonstrate the machinery and explain them.
You can learn the basics of spinning and weaving and their history through actual examples.

In the automobile pavilion, there are many dynamic displays of original equipment. And, in each section, you can listen to their explanation and watch demonstrations. Those displays are very attractive. You can learn about the evolution of the development and production technology.

In this museum, some useful and interesting events and workshops also take place every month. And, they have a library and rooms to learn various aspects of making things.

An English tour for 90 minutes takes place every Sunday afternoon.

In the Aichi prefecture, which is Toyota's base, there is the Toyota Automobile Museum in Nagakute. And, you can visit a Toyota automobile factory. In addition, there are some related institutes in Aichi prefecture. So, if you are interested in, please check them out.
