Have fun with science!

  • Sightseeing

Nagoya City Science Museum is located in Shirakawa Park. It is next to Nagoya City Art Museum in the center of the city and it is a large park located in a famous commercial area, Sakae.

The building is a very big silver sphere between towers. The big sphere is a planetarium and one of highlights of this museum.
From 1962 to 2010, more than 15 million people visited the planetarium. And, in 2011, the planetarium was improved with the latest technology: the dome became larger, its diameter if now of 35 meters. It is the largest in the world at the time I am writing this article.

As for space, there are some facilities of MHI (Mitsubishi Heavy Industry) in Aichi prefecture. MHI is a company which launches rockets into space every year in Japan. Unfortunately, there is not a good facility opened to the public in Aichi although there is a museum of MHI in Yokohama.
You can see a rocket in front of Nagoya City Science Museum. In addition, there are many exhibitions about space. Although space seems to be one of the most important subjects, this museum is about science overall.

You can enjoy experiencing some equipment and understand the principles and applications of science. And also, you can learn about the relationship between scientific technology and human beings. Some exhibitions are about the problems society is facing to use scientific technology such as environmental issues.

There are large exhibitions that can only be seen in the Nagoya City Science Museum.
At Exploring Water, you can see each stage for clouds, rainfall, rivers and oceans.
At Tornado Lab, you can see 9 meter tornadoes.
At Electric discharge Lab, you can see bolts twisting around in the air.
At Deep Freezing Lab, you can see a complete real aurora in a -30℃ room. And, you can also watch a variety of real ice.

There are many other exhibitions and equipment to see on each floor while experiencing and learning about science.
