Plum & cherry blossoms with Mt. Fuji

  • Cherry Blossom Viewing

Iwamotoyama park is located on the hill southwest of Fuji city with an altitude of 193 meters. It is loved by both the locals and many visitors. You can enjoy a panoramic view with the Fuji river in the West, the Suruga bay expanding to the South, Izu Peninsula and Mt. Fuji in the North from the observation decks.
Seasonal flowers blooming in the park are also enjoyed, such as plums, cherries, azaleas, hydrangeas, evergreen trees and colored leaves in each season. Among them, plums and cherry blossoms are very famous and attract many photographers. The blooming period of plums is in February and March and the period of cherry blossoms is from the end of March through the beginning of April.

With the catch line, “Enjoy a great view of plum and cherry blossoms with Mt. Fuji”, various events are held in the park especially weekends from February 1st to April 10th, including concerts, flea markets, hiking, lighting-up and even a wedding party.

Feel the blessings of nature and Mt.Fuji!

  • Special Recommendations

Iwamotoyama park is a natural park loved by the locals and attracting many visitors. It is located on a hill southwest of Fuji city with an altitude of 193 meters. The park includes an open space with grass, some hiking courses, observation decks and other interesting features.

From the observation decks, a panoramic view with the Fuji river in the West, the Suruga bay expanding to the South, Izu peninsula and Mt. Fuji in the North can be enjoyed. The place is also a famous spot for a beautiful night view of town lights of Fuji city and Shimizu port in the distance.

Many people enjoy seasonal flowers blooming in the park, such as plums, cherries, azaleas, hydrangeas, evergreen trees and colored leaves. Among them, plums are very famous and attract many photographers in February and March every year. Cherry blossoms are also popular from the end of March to the beginning of April.

As for the view of Mt. Fuji, my recommendation is on the way to Iwamotoyama park. Some green tea fields spread along the road and they can be a nice location for taking a good picture of Mt. Fuji over green tea fields.

There are some good cafés serving green tea. Some owners are local tea producers in the area. They offer an experience for making a cup of matcha (green tea powder tea) or making a roasted tea by yourself, as well. Since Shizuoka is proud of the largest amount of green tea production across the nation, it would be nice to try the taste.

A restaurant “Fujisan Morino Kitchen” is in the park. Here’s the information.
Lunch Time: 11:00am to 2:00pm, Café Time: 2:00pm to 8:30pm (last order 8:00pm), reservation is needed for dinner, closed on Wednesdays, and pets allowed

A popular hiking course starts from Jisso-ji temple which is located on the foot of Iwamotoyama.

Access to Iwamotoyama: about 20 minutes by taxi from JR Fuji station or JR Shin-Fuji station (about 3,000 yen)
