Enjoy the dolphin show with a splash!

  • Animal Appreciation

Located in a place with an incredible view of the Suruga bay and Mt. Fuji, Izu-Mito Sea Paradise started an aquarium for dolphins about 80 years ago. Later, other sea animals such as a whale shark and a minke whale were added. In 1977, when the aquarium changed its name to the current “Izu-Mito Sea Paradise”, walruses and sea otters were added too. It became the first facility to keep such aninals in Japan.

The biggest attractions of the Izu-Mito Sea Paradise are the fantastic shows performed by sea lions and dolphins. Visitors can enjoy them while seeing their friendliness and high jumps. I think the first thing to do after arriving at the aquarium is to get the information and schedule on these shows for the day. You can take time to see other animals and events between the shows.
There are also night shows sometimes too during the summer but please check the schedule beforehand.

Let me introduce the main sea animals: bottlenose dolphins, pacific white-sided dolphins, sea otters, sea lions, walruses, seals including popular spotted seals and fur seals, penguins, deep sea fish and others.

The feeding time for each animal will be announced, so let’s check the time as well as the show schedules. If you’d like to get close to a dolphin, the aquarium offers you the opportunity to touch a dolphin from a boat 4 times a day. You can also feed the dolphins. Feeding times are at 10:50am and 2:20pm. The limit is 6 people at a time.

For children, there is a place to play on the sea shore, too. A restaurant and a souvenir shop are also available. Visitors can spend a happy day in Izu-Mito Sea Paradise.
