【Cherry Blossom Season (Limited Edition)】Early-Flowering Cherry Blossoms with the magnificent view of Mt. Fuji in Nihondaira Plateau
Nihondaira is a popular tourist spot in the Shimizu Ward of Shizuoka City. This plateau which was caused by upheaval one hundred thousand years ago is 250 meters (820ft) high and faces Suruga Bay. It was selected as one of the top 100 Landscapes of Japan in 1927. From an observatory deck, you can enjoy magnificent views of Mt. Fuji, the Izu Peninsula and Shimizu Port. Nihondaira is a famous place to enjoy many varieties of cherry blossoms from the middle of February to the middle of April. During the season of cherry blossom viewing, the Nihondaira Parkway leading to the summit welcomes you with more than 2000 cherry blossom trees.
On a sunny day, you can’t miss the chance to enjoy a picnic lunch on the top.
On the first Sunday in April, Nihondaira-Sakura-Marathon is held. Lengths of the 2 courses are 23.5 and 10kms. If you feel unsatisfied with only cheering runners, why don’t you participate in a 8km walking course held on the same day?
There are a lot of impressive spots to satisfy your interest on Japanese culture in this area such as the Kuno Toshogu Shrine, and at the base, two popular public facilities such as Shizuoka Municipal Nihondaira Zoo (http://www.nhdzoo.jp/info/index.html) and Shizuoka Prefectural Museum of Art (http://spmoa.shizuoka.shizuoka.jp/). This museum has a beautiful promenade where you can enjoy rare varieties such as Gyoiko whose color of petals is green, and Ukon, yellow as well as art sculptures alongside. Thanks to the mild climate, you can also enjoy seasonal strawberry picking from December to May.

Nihondaira is a popular tourist spot in the Shimizu ward of Shizuoka city. This plateau which was caused by upheaval one hundred thousand years ago is 308 meters (1,010 ft) high and faces Suruga bay. It was selected as one of the top 100 Landscapes of Japan in 1927.

A National Treasure, the Kuno Toshogu shrine is located on the adjacent Mt. Kuno. This shrine was built by the second shogun, Hidetada TOKUGAWA, to commemorate his father, Ieyasu TOKUGAWA, the first shogun of the Edo period (1603-1868). An aerial lift operated by Shizuoka railway connects Nihondaira to the shrine in 5 minutes.
Ocha Kaikan (http://ocha-kaikan.jp/) and tea fields are the best place to try tea-picking in its tea field from the beginning of April to October. The staff offers you the unforgettable experience of working in nature within sight of Mt. Fuji for 500 yen per person.
In this area, thanks to the mild climate, you can also enjoy seasonal strawberry picking through the winter and the spring. You can’t miss tangerine orange picking through the autumn and winter, either. Why don’t you come and enjoy fresh agricultural produce to get your daily dose of vitamins?
