Enjoy driving on the white sandy beach

  • Sightseeing

Chirihama is a rare and special beach - because it's the only beach in Japan where you can drive. Even in the world, there are a few beaches, such as Daytona Beach in U.S., Waitarere Beach in New Zealand‎, where you are allowed to drive.

However, unlike those beaches, it's no time constraints and admission is free in Chirihama. Also any kind of vehicles, like a bus, a motorbike, a bicycle whatever, are permitted to drive on the beach.

Even a coach is allowed to drive freely 24 hours a day, unless the entry is prohibited for safety reasons that the waves are high or so.

In a rest house of the waterfront, there is a cycle rental shop, so even if you don't bring a bicycle, you can easily borrow and pedal along on the beach! It'll must have much fun!!

Of course, you can enjoy sea-bathing in summer. Chirihama is shallow off the shore and is suited for sea-bathing. Many families, couples, young people flock to the beach every summer. The fresh fish and shellfish that offer at the beach huts are very popular among the bathers.

Between April and October, a local sand sculptor makes sculptures on the beach and you can see the process of making up close. The sculptor who won the sand sculpture contest on TV programme has been making sculptures on the beach since 1994.

The sand sculpture festival anyone can participate is held on the first Saturday and Sunday in August. So, if you want, let's try!
